This stage starts in Roncesvalles, an important point in the French Camino in the Navarre Pyrenees. From there, we go down through the woods until Zubiri, Pamplona, Puente de la Reina, Estella and Los Arcos before entering La Rioja, where we will know the birthplace of the famous wine, to finish in Logroño.
(* Remember that the check-In date is the night before starting walking)
This stage leads us from Roncesvalles to Zubiri in a beautiful landscape of woods and meadows. We will go through Burguete and El Espinal until arriving at the Erro Valley with its wonderful oak and beech woods. We go up to Mezkiritz and down to Lintzoain where the Erro port begins. From the port, we go down through a boxwood which takes us to Zubiri.
This short stage runs on the Arga River, in the valley of Esteribar. We will go from Zubiri until Pamplona, the first city in the Camino. Then, we will cross the Rabia bridges in Zubiri, the Bandidos bridges in Larrasoaña, the Iturgaiz one in Irotz and finally, the Magdalena bridge in Pamplona.
The stage starts in the area of the University of Pamplona towards Cizur, where we will find vast fields of cereals and small villages. The ascent to Alto del Perdon will require an important effort, so let´s do it in a calm and steady way. In Puente de la Reina, the last part of this stage, pilgrims from the Aragonés Camino converge with those coming from the Navarro Camino.
We start in Puente La Reina along the cobbled streets to the Roman bridge. From there, we will start seeing the olive trees which will be very common in the next stages. Through gravel roads we will get to Cirauqui and its gothic-style gate. We descend towards the Salado river, we cross the bridge and we walk the last kilometers of this stage to Estella.
We leave Estella in order to find Fuentes del Vino in Irache Monastery where we will take a breath to arrive at Azqueta farmhouse. Then, we must go up to Villamayor de Monjardin, the top of the stage. And from here the stage runs along vineyards and olive groves to the village of Arcos.
We leave Los Arcos to reach Torres Rio, where we can visit the Romanesque church Santo Sepulcro. The beginning of this stage is pretty leg-breaking, with ups and downs all the way to Viana, the last village of the French Camino in Navarre, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. From here, a smoother path brings us to the final part of the stage in the city of Logroño.
